P.O.V./American Documentary
Produced by American Documentary, P.O.V. ('point-of-view') is television's longest-running showcase for independent non-fiction film, premiering 14-16 high-impact documentaries every year on PBS. Hailed by critics as among the most important and relevant programming on television, P.O.V. films have won every coveted television and film award, including 18 Emmys, 11 George Foster Peabody Awards, eight Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Broadcast Journalism Awards, three Academy Awards, and the Prix Italia.
We are currently seeking interns for placement in the following areas:
PRODUCTION AND PROGRAMMING — As an acquisition series, P.O.V. receives more than 1000 films for consideration every year. Programming/Production interns help evaluate these films, make dubs and oversee P.O.V.'s tape archive, track submissions via our electronic submission database, input film evaluations, update files and perform various duties as assigned.
COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING — Gain valuable experience in publicity and promotion in the world of public broadcasting and non-fiction film. Strong administrative skills are a must.
INTERACTIVE — Help build our award-winning website. Assist with online community building, web research, HTML coding, image/audio editing and copywriting.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND EDUCATION — Outreach to community organizations about our films. Tasks include web research, database entry, fact checking and proofreading of film companion materials (discussion guides, lesson plans, resource lists).
YOUTH VIEWS — Assist in the outreach, planning and presentation of the Youth Views Institute, an annual training for young community leaders in how to integrate independent documentaries with their community work. Youth Views is a project of the Community Engagement and Education department.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT — Research the key issues and events related to our films. Prepare reports and presentation materials for our partners and funders. Tasks include proofreading, copyediting and database entry.
We are looking for candidates who are motivated and organized with strong communication and writing skills. Interns must be able to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week. Internships are unpaid; college credit can be arranged. Travel stipend available. Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to visit the P.O.V.
