Resource Materials

In order to assist organizations with organizing community activities and media outreach around the broadcast, P.O.V. distributed companion resource materials, including: an action guide called "Five Ways to Reinvent Labor Day" developed for P.O.V. by Active Voice, and a discussion guide for employers, labor leaders, and community stakeholders. P.O.V. also worked with educational media consultant Cari Ladd to create a lesson plan and the American Library Association to create a multimedia resource list of related fiction and nonfiction books, Web sites and videos. These materials are available free-of-charge online at www.pbs.org/pov.

In addition, P.O.V. produced a companion Web site for the film — www.pbs.org/pov/madeinla —which features responses to the film from 2008 presidential candidate Governor Bill Richardson; immigrant worker rights activist Dolores Huerta; labor specialist Katie Quan; author Robert Ross (Slaves to Fashion: Poverty and Abuse in the New Sweatshops); United Students Against Sweatshops from Stanford University; and Lupita Castaņeda, one of the factory workers featured in Maquilapolis [city of factories], P.O.V. 2005). The site also offers character updates, a filmmaker interview podcast, links to resources and a discussion board. (The film update, worker resources and "about the film" pages are available in both English and Spanish.)
