At the trial, the defense called a total of 32 witnesses. One of the most moving moments at the trial (and at the May 4th event) was the testimony of one of those witnesses: Mrs. Betty Good. Betty Good's son, Bob Good, was one of the C28, and she agreed to testify as a character witness on his behalf. Bob Good is standing on the left.::

Ash Wednesday in 1972. Father Michael Doyle distributes ashes in a formerly segregated soldiers' cemetery. The ashes were created by burning a copy of the Pentagon Papers and were distributed from an old WWII army helmet. Doyle was disciplined for conducting this mass after photos appeared in the local papers.::
