May 19 2010 - The national broadcast premiere of the Oscar®-nominated documentary Food, Inc. on April 21, 2010 at 9 p.m. on PBS' POV (Point of View) series jump-started a national conversation about the food we eat, where it comes from and how we can consume a more healthful, sustainable diet. POV partnered with viewers, bloggers, journalists, public television stations, schools, community groups and eco-friendly companies to promote screenings, discussions and potluck parties; the Food, Inc. website streamed the full-length film for an additional week and conducted a National Potluck Campaign inviting people to host a meal, watch the film, talk about the issues and share their stories. Jul 16 2009 - POV (Point of View), public television's premier showcase for independent documentaries, has received a record-setting 10 nominations in the 30th Annual News & Documentary Emmy® Awards, announced July 14 by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). The nominated POV films are (in alphabetical order): Ars Magna, The Ballad of Esequiel Hernández, Belarusian Waltz, In the Family, Inheritance (two nominations, including Best Documentary), The Judge and the General, Soldiers of Conscience, Traces of the Trade and Up the Yangtze. POV is the second most-nominated program after CBS News' 60 Minutes. | »

Nov 1 2007 - How do you sell your documentary idea? Five emerging nonfiction filmmakers got the opportunity to pitch their story proposals to a panel of decision-makers at the popular The Art of the Documentary Pitch workshop in New York on Saturday, Oct. 27, part of DocFest07, the eighth annual documentary festival at The Paley Center for Media. American Documentary, Inc., producer of the award-winning P.O.V. series on PBS, sponsored the third annual award, presented during the competition portion of the session. The winner, Canadian filmmaker Angad Bhalla, received a $5,000 grant to be used toward the completion of the pitched film, The House That Herman Built.
