Docs for Hope + Healing: About Love Film Screening + Art Show

1:00pm–4:00am

Documentaries for Hope and Healing is a new virtual community screening series by POV Engage. Each month POV Engage will be working with different communities to host virtual events that focus on a single film, with the aim of partnering with local organizations across the nations to promote wellness and creative resistance in the midst of a turbulent year. Documentaries for Hope and Healing was created with the idea that storytelling has a crucial role to play in community healing processes. This screening series is made possible with support from the Open Society Foundations.

Please join us on Sat. March 27 at 1P PDT/4p EDT, alongside the Asian Mental Health Project for a 2-hour documentary screening of ABOUT LOVE and followup Q&A with film producers. ABOUT LOVE follows three generations of the Phadke family who live together in their home in Mumbai. When the youngest daughter turns the camera towards her family, the personal becomes political as power structures within the family become visible, and eventually unravel. Cruel and comic in equal measure, the film shows the vagaries of affection across generations.

The event will feature break-out healing rooms with therapists Dr. Sarika Persaud and Israa Nasir, a Q&A discussion, and our virtual art show. Also, raffle prizes will be awarded to select participants!
