American Documentary Welcomes KQED’s Business and Technology Leader Duke Fan to Board of Directors

Overview
American Documentary (AmDoc), the nonprofit organization behind award-winning documentary series ‘POV’, ‘POV Shorts’ on PBS and ‘America ReFramed’ on WORLD, announced that Duke Fan, KQED’s Chief Product Officer, has joined the Board of Directors. Fan is a recognized business and technology leader whose vast professional experience goes back to the early days of e-commerce where he led online product development at companies such as Yahoo! and Realor.com and launched innovative new features including mobile apps along with other now ubiquitous industry-first features. A forward-thinker, Fan brings together business acumen, user experience and technology expertise to this role. Seen as vanguard product developer and team leader, he has held high level positions at established companies such as Netflix and Stitch Fix.
Fan, who joined KQED in 2021, has overhauled and rebuilt their mobile app, Youth Media Challenges and their award-winning voter guide. His 25 + years working at the intersection of technology and business industry contributes to the wide variety and depth of knowledge across the media landscape at AmDoc’s current board of directors. Fan officially joined the board in April.
"I am grateful to join the board for American Documentary. Despite a vast space between YouTube and Hollywood, independent filmmakers often need more than passion and luck to thrive,” states Duke Fan. “ I am so impressed by the success and support that AmDoc has brought to so many people, projects and public media. Let's keep making sure that 'television' does NOT become a vast wasteland."
“On behalf of American Documentary staff and our board of directors, we are proud to welcome Duke Fan onto our team to help us continue to be stewards of public media and remain connected and engaged with the communities we serve. Duke’s business and technology expertise will provide valuable insight and leadership as we evolve and adapt to changes within the documentary field and public media landscape,” said Erika Dilday, Executive Director of American Documentary and Executive Producer of POV and America ReFramed. “We are delighted that he will join us at this critical time in public media.”
