Our Initiatives

At POV Engage, we are reimagining community engagement with a model that builds deep, long-term relationships and strengthens local capacity. By collaborating with PBS stations, community organizations, and local leaders, we use public media as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue and civic engagement.

Our Initiatives go beyond one-time events, creating ongoing opportunities for audiences with diverse perspectives and backgrounds to connect and exchange ideas. Through strategic partnerships and high-impact programming, POV Engage leverages the power of documentary storytelling to spark conversation, inspire action, and bring communities together.

Our America

Launched in the wake of the 2016 elections, Our America: Documentaries in Dialogue is a dynamic initiative that provides support for PBS stations and community partners to foster local, civic conversations on issues that matter most. By expanding the role of public media as a trusted community resource, Our America creates opportunities for meaningful dialogue.

go OFFF!

go OFFF! is a youth pilot program in response to a lack of programming in public media and the non-fiction film industry that engages female-identifying and non-binary youth of color. The program serves those between 13 to 19 years-old, who are interested in filmmaking and engaging with stories by and about women, queerness, and global experiences navigated by people of color.

common spaces

common spaces is the latest initiative from POV Engage, designed to bring film programming into community spaces and foster genuine human connections. By 2026, common spaces will have partnerships in every state and territory hosting an evolving film series program curated specifically for schools, community colleges, prisons, hospitals, support groups, libraries and other public spaces.

Film Break

Film Break is a virtual roundtable discussion series in which POV intentionally brings together mission-driven and mission-aligned organizations across the country to preview a POV film, engage with other organizations working on similar social issues, and learn how POV resources can support their efforts and amplify their work through independent documentary storytelling.

[The film] definitely make [sic] me think past my own skin about the struggle of the man next to me.

The Bay County Public library provided the films at the art gallery for Redfish Film Festival and were ALL educational and informative & interesting. The panel discussions were interactive and made the space feel connected in a positive, powerful way. POV was very helpful to this community. We’ve suffered for a long while.

After attending this event I feel I should stick with journalism. This was a great experience with a lot of eye-opening information.

Western theology really has shifted a lot of Black diasporic people's thoughts on how to love other people. It was really interesting to hear most of the stories from all of the people that spoke when they were reflecting on their parents… I think the film did a really good job humanizing people and I really appreciate that they kept it uncensored.
