With the Fall season in swing the AmDoc staff is back on the road and making appearances at key industry events from the West Coast, to the East Coast, heading South and trekking across the Atlantic to visit key European film hubs.

NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL

Through October 12 | NY, NY

Celebrating its 64th iteration, NYFF has become a key destination for filmlovers and filmmakers from around the world. Opal H. Bennett will be in attendance for the annual celebration of the most significant films from around the world. Since its inception in 1963, NYFF has played a pivotal role in shaping film culture, presenting a curated selection of bold and remarkable works by acclaimed directors alongside emerging talents. There she’ll take in new works, restorations and see the projects by emerging voices in the documentary film.

MEDIMED

October 8 - 11 | Sitges, Spain

Carmen Vicencio will attend the 27th edition of The EuroMed Docs Market MEDIMED, an annual international documentary convening focused on the promotion and distribution of films and supporting new projects from the European Union and the Southern Mediterranean countries. The event promotes professional and intercultural dialogue between European industry professionals and peers worldwide. Carmen will participate in a pitch panel for filmmakers and will be meeting with filmmakers to hear about their projects.

WOODSTOCK FILM FESTIVAL

October 14-18 | Woodstock, NY

Claire Epstein heads to upstate NY to attend the Woodstock Film Festival. Founded in 2000 as a grassroots community film and arts organization the annual festival has grown into one of the premiere independent film festivals in the US, bringing together thousands of filmmakers and film lovers.The dynamic programming boasts a multi-format slate of films, plus special events and guest speakers, panels.

SAN QUENTIN FILM FESTIVAL

October 22 - 23 | San Quentin, CA

Gina Basso and Mahboob Alam will travel to the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center to attend the 3rd installment of the San Quentin Film Festival, the nation’s first film festival taking place inside a prison. Gina returns for the third time as a juror and award presenter while Mahboob attends for the first time as AmDoc’s press photographer and juror. SQFF celebrates the creativity and perspectives of currently and formerlyincarcerated filmmakers, offering a transformative platform for San Quentin residents and industry guests alike. Through proximity, interaction, and shared experiences, the festival fosters unique opportunities for professional training, creative collaboration and potential career pathways. The programming includes short and feature length films, both narrative and documentary formats, along with pitch categories, conversations, an award ceremony, and opportunities for residents and non-residents to gather together.

NEW ORLEANS FILM FESTIVAL

October 22 - 27 | Prague, Czech Republic

Robert Y. Chang is heading to the 37th annual New Orleans Film Festival. Presented by Andscape and organized by the New Orleans Film Society, the festival is a renowned celebration of independent filmmaking that has been championing diverse voices and groundbreaking stories for almost 40 years. It is known for its rich programming that spans categories across documentary, narratives, short form works and animated projects. NOFF serves as a vital platform for emerging and established filmmakers to showcase their work to global audiences. Recognized by MovieMaker Magazine as one of the “25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World,” the annual festival highlights a rich blend of local, national, and international talent, fostering connections within the film industry while embracing New Orleans’ unique cultural vibrancy.

While Robert is in attendance he’ll participate as a panelist at South Pitch Documentary Competition on Saturday, October 24 at 1:30pm at the Contemporary Arts Center.

On Sunday, October 24 at 4pm he will also appear on the panel Lighting the Fuse; Films as Catalysts, at the Contemporary Arts Center. This panel explores how filmmakers are using cinema as an agent of change, and what it takes to make work that doesn't just reflect the world, but reshapes it.

DOK LEIPZIG

October 26 - November 1 | Leipzig, Germany 

Building on its almost 70 year history, DOK Leipzig is a renown international festival for documentary and animated film, being the first in the world to combine these two genres. During the run of the festival Robert Y. Chang will drop into DOK Leipzig as a virtual attendee to meet with filmmakers and producers. Its rich programming provides a platform for intergenerational audiences to experience new, groundbreaking films and awards competitions that provide unique opportunities for filmmakers to celebrate their premieres.

JI.HLAVA INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL

October 23 - November 1 | Prague, Czech Republic

Robert Y. Chang will travel to Prague to attend the 29th annual Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival. The festival was conceived by a group of high school students in the Czech city of Jihlava in 1997 and since then the festival has become recognized as a one of the leading European documentary film festivals and the largest event of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe. The JIDFF brings together thousands of viewers, directors, producers, film critics, journalists, and friends of documentary cinema to spend several days "thinking through film". While Robert is in attendance he’ll participate as an industry pitch panelist hearing about projects in development.
