In the Field: Your Guide to AmDoc Events & Appearances, Nov 2025

This November, AmDoc staff continues to represent our organization at film festivals and events close to home and around the world. We’ll also be hosting our annual GalaFest event where we’ll be celebrating alongside POV, POV Shorts, and America ReFramed filmmaker alumni, industry peers and community leaders who’ll join us on the dance floor in our very own “House Party!”

Members of our programming team will be navigating the friendly skies en route to Europe, Japan, and even NYC’s crosstown traffic to catch the latest nonfiction films, meet filmmakers, industry peers and hear lively discussions, onstage conversations and attend special events.

Tokyo Docs
November 3 - November 8 | Tokyo, Japan

Robert Chang
attended the 15th annual Tokyo Docs film festival. Tokyo Docs will explore a new format this year to include a range of projects related to travel, food, culture, and other topics that interest the public. They welcome established filmmakers as well as provide opportunities for emerging film teams interested in creative work that responds to the evolving media landscape.

Ji.hlava
October 24 - November 4 | Prague, Czech Republic

In the Czech Republic, Chris White attended the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival. Since its beginning in 1997, the festival has become recognized as one of the leading European documentary film festivals and the largest event of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe. It attracts thousands of film professionals gathering to celebrate creative documentary cinema and is a major meeting place for the world documentary industry.

AmDoc’s Annual GalaFest: House Party — Our House, Our Stories. Our Future.

November 11, Brooklyn, NY

AmDoc staff from far and wide will convene in Brooklyn, ground zero for the organization’s production office, to welcome POV, POV Shorts, and America ReFramed filmmakers past and present, industry peers, supporters and community leaders for our annual GalaFest. This year’s theme isHouse Party” and will be an evening of joy and resilience in the face of challenges to public media as well as demonstrating our commitment to continue bringing visionary nonfiction films to audiences around the country. The event will also include an awards ceremony honoring POV alum Elegance Bratton (Pier Kids, POV Season 35) and public media philanthropy veteran Vincent Stehle.

International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA)

November 15 - 19 | Amsterdam, Holland

Erika Dilday, Carmen Vincencio
and Robert Chang are heading to the Low Countries this month to attend the IDFA festival. Since 1988, IDFA has grown into the world's largest nonfiction film festival showcasing a wide variety of documentary films, from traditional narratives to new media, and includes competitive sections, debates, workshops, and markets. This festival draws filmmakers, artists, audiences and industry professionals and their documentary institute provides a space for exchange, collaboration, and inspiration.

DOC NYC

November 12 - 20 | NY, NY

Back home in NYC, Erika Dilday, Opal H. Bennett, Cecilia R. Mejia and Chris White will attend America’s largest nonfiction festival, DOC NYC, a venerable institution that connects films and audiences in celebration of documentary film. The festival hosts screenings, panels and events and is a magnet to the region’s vibrant film community and attracts industry leaders from around the globe. Erika Dilday will attend the festival’s Visionaries Brunch on November 12.

POV Shorts: A Taste of Season 8 Screening & Q+A

Longtime documentary partners DCTV’s Firehouse Cinema will host POV staff members Chris White, Cecilia R. Mejia, Robert Salyer and Doug Truong, to present a special afternoon screening featuring selections from POV Shorts upcoming 8th season. Chris White will moderate the post-screening Q&A.
