New York, N.Y.Oct. 17, 2018 — American Documentary (AmDoc), the parent organization of the PBS documentary series POV, recently announced the hiring of Akmyrat Tuyliyev as interactive producer as well as the promotion of Theresa Navarro to vice president of external affairs and Erika Howard to senior director of station marketing and audience engagement. Tuyliyev will work on several projects already under development with AmDoc's interactive team. Working closely with the executive director, Navarro will oversee development, communications & government affairs. In her new position, Howard will continue overseeing station relations across the country.

American Documentary is a multimedia arts organization that produces POV, the PBS showcase of nonfiction films and American television's longest-running documentary series. Since 1988, POV has been home to the world’s brightest contemporary filmmakers. AmDoc also produces America ReFramed, a year-round documentary series that highlights diverse stories from around the country.

"I am beyond thrilled to join the American Documentary interactive team," said Tuyliyev. "To challenge the boundaries of filmmaking and make interactive content more accessible to the public is very exciting."

Navarro added, "I’m honored to step into this new role and contribute to American Documentary’s legacy of championing access, representation and inclusion. As the daughter of Filipino immigrants who settled in the San Francisco Bay Area, I was raised within a tradition of storytelling as a praxis of community empowerment—I’m excited to bring my experience and energy to the AmDoc leadership team.”

Erika Howard was also promoted to senior director of station marketing and audience engagement. She added, "PBS stations know their communities best, and I’ve been impressed by their commitment to serve them with high quality content and meaningful engagement, whether in person or online. I’m excited to explore more innovative approaches to outreach that will seek to expand audiences and create local impact."

These staffing changes follow an exciting year of growth and recognition for AmDoc. Over the past year, four new members have joined the AmDoc board of directors, three of whom are women. Today, six women and five men serve on the board. AmDoc's broadcast series also received multiple high-profile awards this year including: two Peabody Awards for POV; one Peabody award for America ReFramed, the series' first; Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for America ReFramed, the series' first; and one News & Documentary Emmy Award for POV, as well as three nominations for America ReFramed, the most in the series' history.
