POV’s The Silence of Others nominated for Best Documentary

New York, N.Y. — August 6, 2020 —POV, American television’s longest-running independent documentary series, has received eight nominations for the 2020 News & Documentary Emmy® Awards, announced today by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. PBS once again leads with 48 nominations, receiving more than any other network. POV’sThe Silence of Others was nominated for Best Documentary. The full list of nominated POV films includes 306 Hollywood, The Distant Barking of Dogs,Farmsteaders,Grit,Midnight Traveler,and The Silence of Others.

American Documentary | POV shares the nomination of The Silence of Others with Semilla Verde Productions, Lucernam Films, Independent Television Service (ITVS) and Latino Public Broadcasting (LPB), in association with El Deseo, and executive producer Pedro Almodovar. Funding was provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). The Silence of Others reveals the epic struggle of victims of Spain’s 40-year dictatorship under General Franco as they continue to seek justice four decades into democracy. It was shortlisted for Best Documentary Feature for the 91st Academy Awards® and won a 2020 George Foster Peabody Award for Documentary and a 2019 Goya Award for Best Documentary Film.

The POV series has been honored with a Special News & Documentary Emmy Award for Excellence in Television Documentary Filmmaking, three IDA Awards for Best Curated Series and the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) Award for Corporate Commitment to Diversity.
