A Navajo coal miner, Lawrence, struggles with his part in the irreversible destruction of their sacred mountain at the hands of America's largest coal producer. This deep spiritual sacrifice has caused him decades of emotional turmoil while providing for his family.

Lawrence’s home life is governed by his traditional practice and expectations he has for his daughter Caitlin, a senior at the local reservation high school. Caitlin is a private young woman discovering her sense of self and plans for her future. A character-driven film captured over the course of five years, The Blessing brings the search for acceptance through this poetic social and environmental story.
