Ali Kazimi
Ali Kazimi (b. 1961, India), an award-winning Canadian filmmaker, is recognized as one of Canada’s foremost documentary filmmakers. He received the Gemini Award for Best Social and Political Documentary in 2005 (Canada’s equivalent to the Emmy). Kazimi’s work spans a broad spectrum of formats and genres including feature documentary, short documentary, fiction, experimental film, photographic montage, and 3D media art installation; thematically, his work deals with social justice, race, migration, history and memory. During the course of a career that spans nearly three decades, Kazimi’s films have garnered awards and honours in festivals around the world including retrospectives at the Images Festival, Toronto; Pacific Film Archives/Berkeley Art Museum; Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary & Short Films and the VIBGYOR International Film Festival, Kerala, India.
