POV’s The Ride Ahead Wins a News & Documentary Emmy® Award for Outstanding Social Issue Documentary

New York, N.Y. — June 4, 2026 — POV’s The Ride Ahead  received the News & Documentary Emmy® Award for “Outstanding Social Issue” at the 47th Annual News & Documentary Emmy® Awards, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). 

Co-directed by son and father Samuel Habib and Dan Habib and produced by Dan Habib, the film follows Samuel, a disabled 21-year-old navigating adulthood as he pursues independence, the start of a career, and love while seeking guidance from America’s most rebellious disability activists. Samuel Habib accepted the award during last night’s ceremony at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, in Manhattan.

American Documentary films received a total of eight News & Documentary Emmy® Award nominations—six in program categories and two craft nominations—for films they presented as part of the 38th season of their long-running documentary series POV and the 8th season of POV Shorts. This recognition further underscores the organization’s continued impact and excellence in nonfiction storytelling. Across its history, POV films and projects have garnered more than 108 News & Documentary Emmy® nominations and won 53 Emmy Awards®, 29 Peabody Awards, 17 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards, three Academy Awards® and the first-ever George Polk Documentary Film.
